History of
Old Anandians’ Class of 2002
Old Anandians’ Class of 2002 had its humble start in the year 2011 with only 8 members who realized the importance of gathering the batch mates scattered across the world. The team was led by Prabodha Weerasinghe, who managed to spread the news of the new initiative with the support of the rest of the founding team among a significant crowd.
The foremost project of the 2002 group was a blood donation program which was held in the college premises which attracted fairly a large number of batch mates.
Due to its active participation in OBA projects and due to the potential of the group members, the Group received affiliation status from ACOBA within 2 years from inception. Thilanga Kaushal Mendis was the President in the affiliated group.
Until the year 2016 the Group organized various individual self-funded projects such as family gatherings and school development project, but the year 2016 revolutionized the direction of the Group with the introduction of its signature event, Maroons’ Sing-along. Maroons Sing Along, the glamorous night filled with music, laughter, brotherhood and love was made the annual fundraiser of the group which provided funding for the rest of the events in the event calendar of the Group.
The hardest part of any long lasting endeavor is its initiation. A small, yet capable team took this challenge and laid a strong foundation which took the Group a long way. Today, we are a team of over 100 members, with a strong footing as an affiliated group of the Ananda College Old Boys’ Association (ACOBA), contributing in various school development, CSR and membership development programs.
